| News - Juve, Lazio and Fiorentina relegated |
Juventus, Lazio, and Fiorentina have been relegated from Serie A as a result of the match-fixing scandal. AC Milan have avoided relegation, but will start next season with a 15-point deficit, and have had 44 points taken from their tally for the 2005-06 season. Juventus have been stripped of their Serie A titles for each of the last two seasons. They will start next campaign with a 30-point deficit. [Link] |

| News - I'm sorry but no regrets |
Zinedine Zidane has apologised for his headbutt on Italian defender Marco Materazzi in Sunday's World Cup final. But the French legend does not regret his actions, alleging on television that Materazzi provoked him by insulting both his mother and sister. "It was inexcusable. I apologise," said the 34-year-old Zidane. "But I can't regret what I did because it would mean that he was right to say all that." [Link] |

| News - Italy Top Of The World |
Italy beat France 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out to win the World Cup after an absorbing 1-1 draw in Berlin. Fabio Grosso scored the winning goal after France's David Trezeguet missed. But this game will be perhaps be remembered for Zinedine Zidane's career ending in disgrace after being dismissed for an off-the-ball incident with Marco Materazzi. He headbutted the Italian defender after a heated discussion on 110 minutes and, after some consultations between officials, was shown the red card. |

| News - Zidane's dream still alive |
The second semi was nowhere near as dramatic as the first but France will face Italy in Sunday's final in Berlin. A first-half penalty from Zinedine Zidane won the match after a foul by Ricardo Carvalho on Thierry Henry. Portugal dominated possession in the second period but could only create half-chances and their challenge petered out. |

| News - Italy break German hearts |
Alessandro Del Piero and Fabio Grosso scored two wonderful late goals to break German hearts and send Italy into the 2006 World Cup final. With just two minutes of extra-time remaining and the game seemingly set for a nerve-wracking penalty shootout fullback Grosso finally broke the deadlock before Del Piero added the gloss to make it 2-0 with the very last kick of the game. |
